HOW IT ALL BEGAN
“What can I do
that’s local?”
Through her work in hospitality, Mary Fulford heard this question again and again. Turks and Caicos is known for its sun, sea and sand, but travellers were looking for something more personal: a chance to meet the people, taste the food and understand the culture that makes these islands home.
Mary saw a gap in the market for authentic experiences that tell the story of who we are as Turks and Caicos Islanders. In 2023, she founded Island Mystique as Turks and Caicos’ first culturally immersive tour company, opening another layer of the islands to travellers and locals alike.
Today, local chefs, artisans, farmers and cultural bearers welcome you into the traditions they live every day. A recipe becomes a family story. An artisan’s skill becomes something you can try for yourself. Around a shared table, a destination begins to feel like a personal connection.
Sustainability and personalization are at the heart of what we do. Working with local hosts, makers and businesses creates opportunities for communities to benefit from tourism, strengthens local economies and helps cultural knowledge live on. Island Mystique is founded with a vision for cultural tourism that tells the story of Turks and Caicos through its own people.
Sharing our traditions
We host signature experiences for guests, luxury travel agents and groups, telling the beautiful story of Turks and Caicos through local food and artisan hands-on experiences.

Supported by Invest Turks and Caicos, Mary joins DMZ’s YYZ Programme in Toronto and speaks at its Black Innovation Breakfast. Tourism and cultural conversations open new connections and perspectives on heritage preservation, experiential tourism and how Indigenous culture is shared in Canada.
